·               Managed a team of engineers developing firmware on ARM Cortex for a thin multimode modem (LTE Advanced, HSPA+, TD-SCDMA and EDGE). Worked with key customers (Apple, Samsung) on next gen smartphone designs.

·               Productized a TDM co-existence algorithm between WiFi, Bluetooth and LTE TDD and FDD bands.

2007 – 2010 Senior Director of Engineering (Centillium then Transwitch): Post merger with Transwitch Corporation focused my team on VoIP PBX, GEPON and processor products. Developed complete software packages (drivers, BSP, protocol stacks, applications, APIs) necessary for chip productization. Supported a complete generation of GEPON deployment in Japan with OKI.

·               Worked with leading customers and partners globally. Collaborated with key service providers: NTT, SK Telecom, ATT, Verizon, Free, Deutche Telecomm, Vodafone, Reliance, Airtel, Skype, Chunghwa, etc..

2010 – 2012 Chief Software Architect (Transwitch): Conceptualized a 3G/LTE wireless home gateway for FMC (fixed mobile convergence) based on the “Atlanta” processor family. For this hardware reference design developed a unique software stack supporting IMS VoLTE, seamless voice and data handoff, XCAP and RCS for media, LTE QoS and a managed secure WiFi AAA solution, using open source software.

·               Worked with the wireless chipset vendors Altair and Qualcomm and module vendors Sierra Wireless, Novatel and WNC. Several of the stack’s components were approved in Verizon and Vodafone innovation centers.

·               Explored architecture for a connected TV chipset family based on CEVA DSP and Transwitch’s HDMI. The feature set included OTT video streaming and conferencing, HTML5, H.264 and HEVC, HD Codecs, video transcoding, DRM, watermarking, and DNLA. Developed jointly with Skype a unique acoustic solution for microphone beam forming and advanced acoustic EC (with instantaneous convergence and stereo double talk).

Lucent Technologies - Westlake Village, CA           Principal Software Eng, Manager        1997 – 2002

·               Was hired third into Ashok Dhawan’s “Stinger” team ($1B sales per annum with 100 engineers). Managed the line interface group of 20+ ppl in California and India. Provided leadership and architectural guidance to developers while simultaneously implementing key software and working with groups in Lucent, vendors and customers.

·               Collaborated with key customers worldwide: Sprint, Telefonica, Telemex, France Telecomm, Hanaro, KT, NTT, Chunghwa and others, on a variety of systems, architecture, deployment and troubleshooting issues. Spent a significant time traveling and on conference calls, working closely with hardware and QA teams.

·               Significantly contributed to many of Ascend’s innovative and industry leading embedded networking platforms. Co-implemented and enhanced PPP, tunneling and security, frame relay and ATM. Maintained various components of the TCP/IP stack, call control and routing, switch provisioning and system management.

·               Designed and implemented algorithms and drivers for various xDSL modems from industry leading vendors as well as a generic Network Processor driver, firmware and resource manager. Implemented IGMP and MLD multicasting using the Agere “Payload Plus” NP. Worked on the architecture and bring up of the next gen 40G platform.

Pairgain Technologies - Tustin, CA                             Senior Software Engineer                  1996 – 1997

·               Designed and implemented software for an HDSL bridge/router (TCP/IP, call manager, config, UI). Maintained and enhanced the HDSL driver including transceiver training sequence, PLL manager and framer.

·               Worked closely with “US West” to plan and support the first commercial DSL deployment in the USA in 1997.

·               Worked on Telco remote powering, FXO/FXS voice channel transport and lifeline POTS fallback state machine.

RAD Data Communications – Tel-Aviv, Israel               Software Engineer                          1994 – 1996

·               Worked on software for an ISDN TE card. Implemented the data path and a bonding inverse multiplexing driver. Ported and integrated the Trillium Q.931/Q.921 protocol signaling stack.

·               Was involved in most aspects of the product lifecycle, interacting with QA, pre and post sales engineering, as well as customers (Deutche Telecomm) on feature requests and deployment issues.

Tel-Aviv University - Tel Aviv, Israel    Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Lab Manager 1993 – 1994                     

·               Designed and developed software for an autonomous ground vehicle (AGV) equipped with motion sensing cameras, an overhead trajectory camera and an ultrasonic proximity sensor. The effort included path planning, image processing and motion control using DC motor drivers. A PC application controlled the robot using a parallel port.

·               Was the key person involved in the creation of the lab. Planned logistics, interacted with university administration and vendors, guided BA students in lab related projects and worked on my thesis paper.
